Travel to Thailand  The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Chanthaburi

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, also known as Christ Church Chanthaburi, is a stunning Christian church located in the Chanthaburi Province of Thailand. It is a Roman Catholic church that is dedicated to Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Upon entering the temple, visitors will be struck by the beautiful and intricate sculptures that adorn the interior. Even if you are not a Christian, you can still appreciate the faith that is palpable in this holy place.

One of the standout features of the cathedral is the Virgin Mary statue, which is adorned with over 200,000 precious stones, or more than 20,000 carats, and a base cast in pure silver. The ceiling is also a work of art, with wood carvings depicting the hull of the Noah's ark, adding to the elegant and cool atmosphere of the interior.

Outside, the cathedral features two spires on the bell tower and is located next to the Chanthaburi Canal. In front of the sanctuary, there is an outdoor fountain that serves as a popular spot for taking pictures. The open courtyard around the fountain can get quite sunny, so it is advisable to bring sunscreen.

Visitors can park their cars at the school next door, with a parking fee of 20 baht per car. The cathedral was recognized for its architectural conservation efforts in 1999, receiving the Outstanding Building Conservation Award from the Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King. The church also holds a Christmas party each year, making it a must-visit destination during the holiday season.
